A Component Model

Within the book we use the following component model to help structure the discussion around what the components of a virtual human are, and how far along we are developing each one. The model is derived in part from an analysis of the cognitive architectures discussed in Chapter 6, and also from the pragmatic experience of over a decade of trying to build a virtual human. There are obvious challenges that a) there is a lot of blurring and interconnectivity between boxes and that b) the ultimate virtual human may well be of a more emergent and homogenous form. But for now we think it works not only as a basis for discussion but also as a basis for some of, if not all of, the practical work.
